About Botany Department

The department of botany was started with B.Sc, botany in the year 1969. The B.Sc botany programme is now being offered with the sanctioned strength.120 in the first year. Shift system was started in the year 2007 July. Both English &Tamil medium was started.

The M.Sc, botany was introduced in the year 2012-2013 and it is functioning well. The admission is based on the marks obtained in the Hr.Secondary and cokmmunal roaster.In UG 302 students & in PG 36 students are studying in our Department.

Those who took in UG as amajor chemistry and zoology they are studying a Botany as a allied subject.Number of equipments are present in our Department.

Objective of the department

  • To equip the students with the basic skils in indetifying and labelling different parts plants
  • To help the leaners to get good marks and creative in thinking. It help the individual to become a self reliant and independent. To develop an aptitude towards science and nature.
  • To import quality education in the fieled of botany enabling our students to confidently face the job oppurtinity.
  • Impart education of the highest standard through value based holistic teaching and learning by integrating traditional and innovative practices.
  • Create a platform for students for exploring their creative potential and nurturing the spirit of entrepreneurship and critical thinking
  • Inculcate a strong belief in hard work and core values of gender equality, human rights and ecology in order to make them socially responsible citizens.
  • Equip students with the skills needed to adapt better to the changing global scenario and gain access to multiple career opportunities.

Features available in the department

The goal of the botany department are conducting international,national and state level conference

Given direction to live with self-confident. Remidial classes are kaking for slow leaners, it is very useful for the students to score high marks.

The department maintains a botanical garden since inception a treasure of plant wealth ,conserratory of rare, endangered species, trees and shrubs which are witness of glorious era of the botany department,catering to the needs of the young botanist of today attended by skilled gardenest

We have a valuable equipments like Hot Air Oven, Centrifuge , Autoclave, Shaker, Projector. Airflow chamber etc.
