The Department of Computer Applications (MCA course) was started in 2004 and BCA was started in 2013. The MCA programme is a two year full time post graduate course comprising four semesters. The MCA program has a current annual intake of 15 students. The BCA programme is a three year full time under graduate course comprising six semesters. It has a current annual intake of 50 students. The MCA & BCA programme are affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, which focuses on providing a sound theoretical background as well as a good practical exposure to the students in the relevant areas. It constantly keeps its individuals in track with state-of-the art computer technologies and is dedicated in providing a cutting-edge, industry oriented education in applied computer science. It aims at producing individuals, who can successfully meet the rigorous demands of the Information Age. It aids scholars to evolve academic strategies and work toward academic goals rooted in human value for knowledge-based achievements in Information Technology.

The Computer applications Department aims to make a place at both national and international level by producing high quality ethically rich computer application engineers with the ability to adapt the upcoming challenges in information technologies and their applications to cater to the ever changing industrial and societal needs. It is committed to provide a supportive, friendly and challenging learning and research environment. Moreover, it endeavors to establish itself as a Centre of excellence in teaching and research to produce skilled human resources for sustainable nation’s growth and having technological impact on the people’s life. The department has a team of passionate academic staff with a wide range of research interests. The faculty members of the Computer Applications Department have very strong academic credentials. The department has 02 doctorate degrees from outstanding institutions and they are very active in research. The faculty has commitment and dedication for teaching and providing a good learning environment for the student growth. Curriculum of the department provides a good theoretical foundation through high-quality teaching and extensive practical training. In addition to regular curriculum the department regularly organizes various seminars, conferences, faculty development program (FDP), short term training program (STTP) and workshops etc., with the funding from various agencies for the benefit of faculties and students in the area of computer applications. It aims to motivate the students to enhance their software development skills, soft skills, personality development etc.

Objective of the department

The objectives of the department are to innovate the areas of Computer Applications; to advance and enhance commercial application and visual application development; to build interest in students for specialized research in inventing new database design and to guide students in the building efficient information systems; to create new database engines; and to create new Query languages.

The department emphasizes value based quality education in Computer Application and the curriculum reflects the depth and width of Computer Application where emphasis is laid on practical understanding of technology; The lab is designed with an IT environment and equipped with projectors. The placement cell process provides students with every opportunity to enter top ranking companies.

8.   It has its own library which has an extensive collection of books, reference materials for satisfying the academic and research needs of the students and faculty. The Library and Information Centre consists a Reference Section, Circulation Section, and Periodical Section.

9.   New suggestions: The Library always encourages all students and faculty to recommend new books in order to strengthen their collection. The students and faculty members can also suggest new titles by completing necessary formalities.

10.                The Department Organizes both Technical and Co-curricular events to motivate the students to showcase their talents every year.
