The department of MATHEMATICS is one of the oldest departments in the college and was established way back to 1964 with sanctioned strength students both in English and Tamil medium. The department has well furnished library with adequate books to cater the needs of the students. The P.G courses started in the year of 1982. Shift system was started for the course of B.Sc., (Tamil Medium and English Medium) from the academic year 2007-2008. The Department was elevated as Research Departments in the academic year 2012 - 2013. There are 452 students studying in B. Sc., Mathematics including( Shift - I & II) and 68 Students are studying M. Sc., Mathematics. The Department of Mathematics offers courses in B.Sc. and M. Sc. Mathematics along with Mathematics as a subsidiary programme for the students who have taken Physics, Chemistry ,Computer Applications and Computer Science as their main subject.

Vision

 Department was started in 1964. Our department was granted to conduct Under Graduate both Tami and English Medium and Post Graduate for past 39 Years. From 2007 onward Shift II is running for both Tamil and English Medium. In the year 2012 M.Phil and Ph.D program was granted to conduct in our Department.

 Our Department is Pursuing Nine Regular Staffs and Six Guest Lecturers. In that 50% of Faculty members pursuing the direction of research and 50% of faculty members are Ph.D holders.

 Around 500 Students are studying in our Department. Separate libraries are running for both Under Graduate and Post Graduate. Internet facilities are available for Research purpose.

 Extension activities, field Study, Projects are undergoing in our Department.

 The Department was conducting Remedial Class for slow learners.

 The courses offered by the department are unique in its own way. All the courses were design to cater the requirement for the various Department.

 To make Students aware of technology and to explore mathematical concepts through activities and experimentation.

 To produce Post Graduate Students with strong foundation to join research or to serve in industry.

 To create an atmosphere conducive to high class research and to produce researchers with clear thinking and determination who can, in future, become experts in relevant areas of mathematics.

 To inculcate in students the ability to apply mathematical and computational skills to model, formulate and solve real life application.

 To make the students capable of discharging professional, social and economic responsibilities ethically.

 It is the mission of the department to share wonder about, appreciation for, understanding, and facility with mathematics with as many people as time and space allows, locally, regionally and internationally, regardless of any characteristics of those individuals whatsoever.

 To work towards transformation of young people to competent and motivated professionals

Objective

The objective of the department is to train students of B. Sc., and M. Sc., in Mathematics to enable them to be ready to take up leadership positions in industry and academia for the development of our country. Learning resources like LCD, audio-visual aids, the internet facilities are available for effective teaching. Every academic year subject books are purchased and made available for teachers and students for the enhancement of knowledge. Separate libraries are available for UG and PG students. Lab facilities are also available for students in our department. Motivational classes are under taken by our department. Parents –Teachers Meetings are conducted in every academic year.

Students are permitted to attend Seminars, symposium, and workshops to keep in touch with the recent trends and developments in their respective subjects of interest. Faculty members attend Refresher courses,workshops, seminars, symposia and conferences to update their knowledge.

The Department of Mathematics offers courses in B. Sc., M. Sc. Mathematics and M. Phil., and Ph.D., Programs under the affiliation of Thiruvalluvar University. The Department has well trained and dedicated team of staff members. Under the assistance of efficient teachers, the students here can perform a wide array of experiments and strengthen their scientific, investigative, reasoning and social skills. State level conferences, quiz are conducted for their educational benefits. Research outcomes of faculty members are published in national and international journals periodically
