The
Department of Economics was started in the year 1964 at UG level and in the
year 2013 at PG level. This course of study is organized on
semester programme and each semester provides for a
minimum of 90 instructional days. The medium of instructions are Tamil and
English. The students are evaluated on a continuous basis throughout the
semester.
Department
of Economics offers a broad range of course options covering the International
Trade, Labour Economics, Mathematical Economics, Research
Methodology and Agricultural Economics. While the Department as a national and
international reputation in its scholarship.
The faculties are equally committed to teaching and advising the
students.
Our
under graduate go on to varied interesting careers in banking and business in
law and government and in international relation and teaching. Graduate of the M.A., programme
pursue careers not only in the traditional areas of research and teaching but
also in fields as diverse as library and Government service.
Our
Department is gifted with more efficient and devoted 1 Permanent Staff and
11Guest Lecturers who are ready to adhere to the needs of the students at any
time. Under the able guidance
and counselling of staff members, students bring laurels to the department and
college by securing many prizes in various competitions that are held at
regional and state level by their active participation in various competitions
and sports meet they add fame to the college. Our Department Library have many books like Economics and competitive exam books.
The department
of economics consists of exploring the economic study and analysis, policy
framing and implementation issues faced by the Indian economy along with the
analysis of other economies in the world.
The department thrives to reach standards of excellence in teaching,
research and consultancy economics is important for many areas of society. It can help improve living standards and make
society a better place. Economics is
like science in that it can be used to improve living standards and also to
make things worse. It partly depends on
the priorities of society and what we consider most important.
